Content Specifications for October 21st Quiz

The quiz will be held in the computer laboratory on the third floor of the SB building.

There are 30 multiple choice questions.

Topics that will be covered include:

CT numbers (how does a higher energy beam affect the CT number)

Linear attenuation coefficient

The Hounsfield scale (relative positions of different tissues on the scale, range of CT numbers, etc.)

Windowing
  • window level (WL)
  • window width (WW)
  • appearance of tissues when WL and/or WW is adjusted
  • effect of WL and WW on tissue density and contrast
Wave theory
  • Sine wave
  • wavelength
  • frequency
  • period
  • amplitude
  • phase
  • units of measurement (hertz kilohertz, etc.)
What is an ADC? (see PowerPoint presentation below)
  • sampling rate/frequency
  • sampling precision
  • quantization
  • purpose of a Fourier transform
  • time domain
  • frequency domain
  • What is the Nyquist sampling rate and what does it indicate?

PowerPoint Presentation for October 13th Class

The presentation below introduces two very important concepts in digital imae processing:
1. The Fourier Transform
2. The Nyquist Theorem
